FACULTY PROFILE

Dr. Susan Fuhr has been an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Weber State since 1993, joining the faculty immediately after completion of her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Her dissertation topic focused on vulnerability to depression and she maintains a strong interest in research on and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD.) Thanks to the wonders of electronic communication, her professional activities include collaborations with a senior investigator from Belgium as well as with students and faculty colleagues from our campus. She has received local funding for a research project on homelessness that includes a team of 11 students. In conjunction with students and her husband, Marko Whiteley, Susan researched the Hollywood portrayal of Vietnam and those results will soon be submitted for publication. Her continued interest in teaching strategies and effectiveness has resulted in successful grant funding and several regional and national meeting presentations, some based on data gathered in her classes. At Weber, Susan has taught courses in the Psychology Department and the Honours Programme. The Psychology of Women and Gender (Psych. 220), a popular cross-listed course for Women's Studies, is team-taught with Dr. Julie Arbuckle. In addition to research and teaching, she serves the campus and community by participating in the "Expanding Your Horizons" conference each year and co-facilitating a psychodrama and psychotherapy workshop with Marko, sponsored by the WSU Counseling Center. Prior to coming to Weber, Susan served a predoctoral internship at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, and also taught several psychology classes at Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College.

On rare moments when she is not teaching, researching or presenting related to her professional life, Susan enjoys gardening, movie-going, and travel.
