Developmental Mathematics Program

Math on your own TERMs

Technology Enhanced Redesign of Mathematics (TERM)

Intro to TERM

TERM is the exciting new way that the Developmental Mathematics Program will be teaching its courses: Pre-Algebra (Math 0950), Beginning Algebra (Math 0960), and Intermediate Algebra (Math 1010). It is an Emporium model as presented by the National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT).

How it works

First, you take the Accuplacer math placement test to find out which developmental math course is the one you need. Then, you register for this developmental math course, just like you register for any WSU course. Then make sure you get your Wildcard. You will need your Wildcard with you to go to class, to access the Hub, and to take tests.

Once the semester starts, you need to complete one module each week to make progress toward completing the course. To do this, you must attend one hour of class and one hour of Hub (lab) each week where Developmental Mathematics faculty and peer tutors will give you personalized and individualized help as you learn math. The additional time you need to spend each week to meet module deadlines may be at your home, in the Hub, or in any location where you get Internet access.

Why are we making this change?

Because this type of curriculum change has been successful in colleges and universities across the United States, we expect many positive outcomes for Weber State University students:

  • higher course pass rates
  • higher levels of math learning
  • increased math confidence and enjoyment
  • decreased math anxiety and frustration
  • ability to work ahead and complete more than one course each semester
  • reduced time to earn a college degree

When will this change be happening?

Beginning Spring 2010, all of the Math 0950 courses will be in this new format. In Summer 2010, Math 0950, Math 0960, and Math 1010 will be in the new format. These courses will be at the WSU Ogden and the WSU Davis campuses.
