About Online
Instruction...
This
class is
Online ???

|
We know that
some participants will be nervous
about taking a course "online." This
format of instruction is new to many of us,
participants and instructors alike. These courses are designed to allow you
some flexibility to work on your own, however,
there are dates and deadlines to
pay attention to. Some of those dates will be due
dates for assignments that will be listed on the
course schedule page. You should pay particular
attention to that schedule.
We also expect that you will
discuss the reading and assignments with your
particular collaboration group members.
We want to emphasize the importance of this
collaboration. Getting feedback from your fellow
participants will make this experience much more
meaningful. Your instructor will also be
providing feedback to you.
Course expectations
will vary among participants, and some may feel
that this format does not satisfy their
particular needs and wishes. We ask that you keep
an open mind... explore the online course
material and format... be patient when things are
not as clear as you want.... and when in doubt
about something; ASK THE INSTRUCTOR.
We welcome your comments and
look forward to your successful completion of the
ESL endorsement. We hope that your teaching
skills are enhanced as a result of this training.

Some actual comments from
previous course participants:
"I was nervous at first. After
meeting and getting started I found there was nothing to
be nervous about. My instructor was great to work with,
he was willing to help any way he could. The way he set
things up made the course easy to follow. I would do this
type of class again."
"I really enjoyed the information
on parent/teacher relations. It helped me realize that it
is needed throughout the year. I am always great at it at
the first of the year and then go down hill from there.
This course renewed the involvement for the spring
months!
In general, I think the reason why the online courses
worked out so well is because all of the teachers taking
the class knew each other ahead of time. We were working
at our own pace but we never felt alone and we knew who
to collaborate with."
"I really appreciated the way my
instructor kept in touch with me by e-mail. It was nice
to know he was there when I had a question. I was
skeptical at first about an on-line course but this
turned out A-OK. Thanks for all your help."
"The internet format was very user
friendly. I found it very easy to use, even though I
haven't used the internet much before.
I have already implemented many of the things I learned
in this course in my classroom, and plan to implement
more during the coming school year. I enjoyed the family
interviews. The authentic assessment tools will be very
useful to me. This course will help me be a more
effective teacher with all my students, and especially my
ELL students.
Of all the ESL classes, this one probably had the most
direct application to my classroom."
"Working with my group was very
beneficial. Thank you for your hard work to set this up.
On line is a great way to take classes. It saved me
considerable in child care."
"There were times when I had a lot
of difficulty bringing up the needed assignments. I was
worried about the online assignments because of my past
experience but it worked out quite well. I'm not sure why
I was unable to pull up some of the assignments but I met
with the Granger group several times and they were very
helpful.
I enjoyed this much more than I expected to."
