Technology Enhanced Redesign of Mathematics (TERM)
Intro to TERM
TERM is an exciting way that the Developmental Mathematics Program is teaching its courses: Pre-Algebra (Math 0950), Beginning Algebra (Math 0990), and Intermediate Algebra (Math 1010). It is an Emporium model as presented by the National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT).
How it works
First, you take the Accuplacer math placement test to find out which developmental math course is the one you need. Then, you register for this developmental math course, just like you register for any WSU course. Then make sure you get your Wildcard so you can print couse materials and take tests.
Once the semester starts, you need to complete one module each week to make progress toward completing the course. To do this, you must attend one hour of class and two hours at the Hub (lab) each week where Developmental Mathematics faculty and peer tutors will give you personalized and individualized help as you learn math. The additional time you need to spend each week to meet module deadlines may be at your home, in the Hub, or in any location where you get Internet access.
Why do we teach in a TERM format?
Weber State University, along with other colleges and universities across the United States, teach developmental math in a TERM format to help students experience:
higher course pass rates
higher levels of math learning
increased math confidence and enjoyment
decreased math anxiety and frustration
ability to work ahead and complete more than one course each semester
