Windows 2000 Practice Problem
This is
part one of a three-part exam. Work the
Database problem also.
Part three is e-mail. Know how
to send and save e-mail (save to a floppy disk).
This problem will work
best in the TBE labs or classroom (Building 2, lab 211 or room 209).
You will need Windows 2002, 2000, or at least Windows 98 to complete this
exercise at home. You can substitute other files if you don't have
the Corel or Microsoft Suites. Testing will use Windows
2000 and 2002, depending on the room. This practice problem is general. Problem No 2
(Windows 2) is geared toward the files that are in the TBE department in
Building 2, lab 211 or rooms 209 and 229.
1. Using My
Computer, file, menu--format your disk (A:) and label it PRACTICE.
Number a sheet of paper 1 through 5. |
|
2. Open Windows
Explorer. Create a new folder named Pictures on your disk. To
open Windows Explorer, right click on the start menu button and choose
Explore. This view allows you to move files easily. |
3. Select the Winnt
or Windows folder on the C: drive. If you do not have a
Winnt or Windows folder, choose any folder that has folders, files, and
file extensions.
Open the Winnt
folder. The file names will have an extension.
Use any files on your C: drive that have different extensions, such as
bmp, wpd, jpg, xls and so on. Click on the View pull-down menu,
and arrange icons by name. Be sure to copy them to your A: drive
and not alter them on your C: drive.
HINT: Windows is the folder in Windows 2002 XP and WINNT will be the windows folder in Windows 2000. If
you have an older version of Windows, use any files that have
different extensions and practice copying, pasting, moving, and
renaming the files. Practice adding and naming folders. Do a
search for the Windows folder on your version of the software.
Use HELP to learn how to do a search. |
|
4. On the right
side of the screen, look below the list of folders to the list of files. Write down the name of the
first .wpg or .doc file on line 1. If you do not have Windows 2002
or 2000, and either
the Microsoft or Corel Suites, use any extension that appears several
times such as bmp or jpg. |
|
5. Select the
first 16 files in the Winnt or Windows folder. |
|
6. Copy the 16
files into the Pictures folder on your disk in the A:\. drive (use any
extension). |
|
7. Rename one
file and write down the name on line 2. |
|
8. Arrange the
files in the A:\Pictures folder by size. Write down the name of the
largest file on line 3. |
|
9. In the
Pictures folder on your disk, create two new folders labeled B-Pic and
C-Pic. |
|
10. Arrange the
files in the A:\Pictures folder by name. Move all of the files with
names starting with the letter B into the B-Pic folder. Write down the
names of the files in the B-Pic folder on line 4. |
|
11. Move all of
the files with names starting with the letter C into the C-Pic folder.
Write down the names of the files in the C-Pic folder on line 5. Arrange
by date. |
|
12. Move the
renamed file from the Pictures folder to the root of the A:\drive (not
in any of the folders). The root of the A: simply means that it
is as far back as it can go. Root is the beginning, so the root
of the A: drive is the beginning. |
|
13. Sketch the
complete A:\drive tree hierarchy including the folders and files. This
will be a very short sketch. |
A:
(is the root of the A drive)
Pictures (is the folder you created in step 2)
(on this line place the name of the file that you renamed and moved to the
root of the A: in step 12)
B-Pich
(On this line put the names of the files you moved to the B-Pic folder
in step 10)
C-Pic
(On this line put the names of the files you moved to the C-Pic folder
in step 11)
