Practice Problems for Computer Literacy Exams
Click on links above to access practice problems

Remember that you must register to take the CIL exams.  Register just like any other course at WSU.  Check the class schedule, choose the TBE exams, and register.

The practice problems in this section are meant as a supplement for students who have some background in computer software, mainly: word processing, presentations, spreadsheet, Internet, e-mail, and operating systems. Courses are available for those who are not computer literate.

Books and Guides
Books on the various software applications are available in the WSU Bookstore or most retail bookstores.  There are Excel, PowerPoint, Presentations, Word, WordPerfect, and Windows guides available in the WSU bookstore.  They are inexpensive and a good help guide for those who need to brush up on the basics.

If you prefer a book, we suggest that you buy one that covers the current Microsoft Suite or Corel Suite.  The Microsoft Suite is taught in the TBE Department.

SoftWare
The TBE department currently uses the Microsoft and Corel software for testing: Excel 2007 or Quattro Pro X3, Word 2007 or WordPerfect X3, PowerPoint 2007 or Presentations X3, Wildcat Mail (e-mail), Windows 2003, and Internet Explorer.

Look at the competencies page to see what each exam covers.

How Many Times Can I Take Each Exam?
You have three chances to take each exam; the first attempt and two retakes.  If you do not pass the exam, pay the cashier $5, and bring the receipt with you to take the second or third test.  The cashier is located on the second floor of the student services building.  Be sure to check your score on VISTA to see if you have passed the exam.

Where Are Exams Given?
Exams are given in room 311 of Elizabeth Hall during regular scheduled testing hours.  See the
"Schedule an Exam" page for links to day and time exams are offered.  If you don't know where Elizabeth Hall is click on the MAP link to view a MAP of WSU.

Where Do I Find My Grades?
Grades are recorded on the online student grading and class system (Online Blackboard Learning System) within seven school days from the date you took the exam.  It is located by typing http://online.weber.edu at the URL.  Type your username and password.  At the next screen choose the class, then choose the grades icon on the lower left side of your screen.

What Grade is Required to Pass the Tests?
Seventy (70%) percent or higher is the grade requirement for the exams.  You will receive a grade in WebCT but your transcripts will show credit or no credit.  Your test grade will not affect your GPA.

STOP: Are you registered for the tests?  You must register for the exams the same as any other class at WSU.  Register during your regular registration time.

Note:
Students must look on WebCT for instructions or either contact instructor by e-mail at
clapine@weber.edu or sign up for a time to take the exam http://programs.weber.edu/cil/signup.htm  once registered for the course. Failure to do so constitutes non-attendance, and may result in no credit unless the student officially withdraws from the class.
