CIL Test Instructions for On-Campus Students

1.  Register to take the tests during the regular registration time each semester

  • Register online or if after initial semester enrollment - contact the NTM department 801-626-6059
  • A student must be on the rolls to take a test
  • Look on the Exam ID page to choose the correct CRN number for each test
  • Approval is needed if you choose to register after the first week of school

2.  Schedule for tests

  • All tests are in Elizabeth Hall (EH) room 311
    • Elizabeth Hall is located on the north east end of campus, just west of the Bell Tower and north of the Union Building
  • Walk in testing - no appointment necessary
  • See lab schedule for current lab hours
  • Check door of room 311 for lab hours (testing days are Monday through Saturday). 
  • The lab is open for study or practice tests for the CIL exams during regular lab hours
  • Summer testing hours vary.  See summer testing schedule for day and time

3.  Look at the practice problems before taking the tests

  • We are currently using Windows 2007 and  Microsoft 2010 software in Lab EH 311
    • Testing is available in the current Microsoft software as well as WordPerfect and Presentations
    • There are MACs available for testing

4.  Take the test

  • Take the test(s) before the last week of school and before final's week
  • Grades are recorded on the online system within seven days of taking a test
  • 73% or higher is required to pass
  • Grades are credit or no credit.  Will not affect your GPA if you do not pass
  • Two retake tests are offered during the semester in which you are registered (cashier's receipt required)

6. Students must access the Canvas system for instructions once registered for the NTM CIL courses.   Failure to do so constitutes non-attendance, and may result in no credit unless the student officially withdraws from the class.

 

CIL Test Instructions for Online Students

1.  Register to take the tests by:

  • Filling out the online approval form
  • After filling out the form and receiving approval to register call Continuing Education to register
  • A student must be on the rolls to take a test
  • Look on the Exam ID page to choose the correct CRN number for each online test

2.  Fill out the proctor and request an exam form (one form):

  • Choose a proctor
  • Be sure that the proctor has the software needed to take the tests
  • It is the student's responsibility to make proctor arrangements as well as furnish any needed materials (flash drives, paper, laptop, etc.)
  • Proctor's may request payment for their services.  It is the student's responsibility to pay proctors
  • Request all exams at same time
  • You do not have to take them at the same time

3.  Look at the practice problems before taking the tests

  • We are currently using Microsoft 2010 and Windows 2007 software
  • Testing is available in both Microsoft 2007 and 2010 software, as well as WordPerfect and Presentations for online students.

4.  Take the test

  • Take all the test(s) before the last week of school work.  No testing during final's week
  • Grades are recorded on the online system within seven days of taking a test
  • 73% or higher is required to pass
  • Grades are credit or no credit.  Will not affect your GPA if you do not pass

Exam Process (at-a-glance)
  • Register for the CIL exams at your scheduled registration time. 
    • Look at the course identification numbers on this web site if you are unsure of the course name and IDs.
    • The exams are listed as courses in the class schedule because you receive one half credit for each exam.
    • Register and pay for one half credit before taking an exam.
    • Your name must be on the rolls before you take an exam.
  • After you have registered for the exams look at the practice problems that are available on this web site.
  • Work through each practice problem.  When you feel confident that you can pass the test schedule a time to take the exam.
  • Testing days and time schedule are available from the Exam Calendar page  or the Lab Hours page.    
  • Exams can be taken three times.  The first try and two retakes.
    • Pay the cashier $5 and bring the receipt with you to retake an exam. 
    • The cashier is located in the Student Services Building.
  • Students will access the online system for instructions and grades once registered for the NTM CIL courses.
