Referrals, Licensing, etc

On the referral database, do the provider names pull up in alphabetical order?
No, they pull up in random order every time a search is conducted to give all providers an equal opportunity for their name to be given out first.

I haven't been receiving any phone calls lately. Why?
You may need to update your profile in our database. You can call us at 801-626-7837 to speak with a Referral Specialist. The Referral Specialist can look at your file and let you know if you are offering services that are being requested the most. We also have Provider Services Specialists who can help you with other ideas for marketing your business.

What is the average rate that other providers in my area are charging?

How many children can I care for at one time?
You can care for up to 4 non-related children without having a license. If you are licensed, you must follow the rules and guidelines set by the Bureau of Child Care Licensing. A parent contacted me as asked if I accept state assistance. How can I do that?
The Department of Workforce Services offers a program called Payment to Parent where they can help qualifying parents pay for their child care expenses. They require that parents choose a provider who is regulated by the Bureau of Child Care Licensing. You must contact them in order to get set up to accept this form of payment at 1-866-375-5437. We recommend that you contact DWS for complete details before enrolling any parents who are on state assistance.

Training, Career Ladder, etc

How do I register for classes?
You will not be considered registered for a class until we receive the two page registration form and you payment. Registrations can be mailed to our office or you can come in person during regular office hours M-F 8am-4pm. Registrations that are slipped under the door will not be accepted. Registrations will also not be accepted at training. The training calendar and registration form can be found in our quarterly newsletter or here on our website.

How do I know which classes to take?
Each child care provider has individual schedule needs according to their educational, Career Ladder or licensing requirements. You can contact our office 801-626-7837 with any specific questions you may have. Those who are just starting on the Career Ladder, or those who have recently obtained a child care license may want to start with the Career Ladder level one classes.

Are classes ever canceled?
Our classes may be cancelled due to weather. We follow Weber State University's policies in making this decision. If Weber State decides to close campus, our classes will be canceled. You can call Weber State at 801-626-6000 to find out if the campus has been closed. We will also leave a message on our main phone line 801-626-7837. All classes canceled due to weather will be rescheduled.
We may cancel a class permanently if there is not sufficient enrollment.

How do I register for a make-up session?
If you wish to make up 1 or 2 sessions of a class, you must fill out the two page registration form. Then circle the date of the session you need to take and write "make-up" on the form in the space provided to write the amount for the class. You will need to either mail the form to our office or you can fax it to us at 801-626-7668.
If more than two sessions need to be made up, the participant must re-register for the full class by mailing in a new registration form and full payment.

How do I know which Career Ladder courses are being offered?
Check our current training schedule in the newsletter or here in this website for a list of classes we are currently offering. New schedules are released in September, December, March and June.

How do I know what classes to use for a Career Ladder level?
The Child Care Professional Development Institute (CCPDI) produces a booklet that has all the information you need about the Career Ladder levels. Also, information on which level each class qualifies for is posted in our quarterly training schedule.

How do I know if my Career Ladder or Training & Longevity application has been processed?
All applications are processed by the CCPDI, you can contact them with any questions 1-888-957-4471. You can also view the status of your application online in the Utah State Training Registry. If you have not logged onto the registry before, you will need your user ID and password. Email any requests for id and passwords to bmontgomery@weber.edu or call our office at 801-626-7837.

How do I know if I'm registered for a class?

How do I know when the next quarter's class calendar will be out?
The training schedule will be mailed out approximately 2-3 weeks before the new quarter begins. For example, the schedule for classes that will be held in April, May & June will be mailed to providers in March. After the schedule has been mailed and received by our providers, it will be posted online.

How do I get a replacement certificate for classes I have attended?
Replacement certificates for any of our courses can be obtained by submitting a request along with a $5 fee for each certificate requested. Requests should include the following information: Name, birthdate, mane of class certificate is for, and your current mailing address. Send requests to Crystal Knippers, 1309 University Circle, Ogden UT 84408-1309. You can also request a certificate in person, however we suggest that you phone our office first (801-626-8083) to see if the proper people will be available to create the certificate for you.

How do I withdraw from a class I am enrolled in?
To withdraw from a class, you must contact our office at least 3 business days before the start of class. CCR&R Northern is unable to issue refunds. We will send you a credit voucher that you can use to take another course from our office.

How do I use the credit voucher?
Simply send in the credit voucher instead of payment. Credit vouchers are good only at our agency and are valid for one year.

How do I know what I classes I need to cover the topics required by licensing?
The Basics of Child Care class covers all of the topics required by licensing. Most of the topics are also covered in the course Child Development: Healthy Care.

How do I get CEU credit for a class?
First of all, check our schedule to see which classes have CEU credit available. The Utah Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (UACCRRA) is the agency that issues the CEU credit. Go to their website to download the homework and to learn where to send the completed homework and your payment.

What forms of payment do you accept for classes?
We are not equipped to take credit or debit cards. Preferred form of payment is check or money order. If you register in person and bring cash, make sure you have exact change as we do not keep a till here in the office.
