The Center is marketing site-specific encapsulated microorganisms for sustained delayed, and/or targeted releases. BIOCAPSULES have been tested for various applications such as land farming, oil and grease bioremediation, sulfide ore biooxidation, degradation of cyanide etc. and can be produced for your site-specific application.

BACKGROUND

Microencapsulated biological materials, BIOCAPSULES, are products that surround microorganisms and/or microbial components (proteins and enzymes) with stabilizers, nutrients, and other materials to ensure their survival during storage and function on dispersal in various environments.  BIOCAPSULES protect enclosed materials from deleterious effects of the surrounding environment and provide a sustained or delayed release of viable microorganisms and essential nutrients for various environmental applications.

Release of encapsulated biological materials can be controlled to target a specific site or environmental application.  BIOCAPSULES provide slow or sustained release of site-specific microbes for you water, soil, or bioreactor to obtain a more effective performance over an extended time.  A slow or sustained release allows biological materials to perform more effectively over an extended time.   Delayed and/or targeted application allows convenient, cost-effective, or seasonal dispersion of biological materials that will be released when environ-mental conditions are optimal for success. BIOCAPSULES use natural encapsulation materials to provide a viable inoculant package that contains all necessary components to speed microbial establishment in a variety of soil and water environmental applications.

BIOCAPSULE matrix materials and inoculum are formulated for specific applications to weather completely into nutrients and naturally occurring microbes and enzymes.  Preparation of encapsulated biological materials for site-specific applications requires some testing to ensure that the encapsulated materials meet desired requirements for size, payload, shelf life, environmental stability, and release control.
