Microbial Optimization

Complete microbial identification, characterization, and monitoring services are available to apply to your bioprocess, bioremediation, and natural/intrinsic attenuation approaches.   Microbial characterization and interaction are often overlooked in both intrinsic and extrinsic bioprocess and bioremediation settings.  Successful application of any type of bioprocess or bioremediation requires a knowledge/understanding of the sites naturally-occurring microorganisms, key site chemical and environmental components, and interactions with any augmented microbes throughout the bioprocess.  This is also true for environmental approaches using wetlands and natural/intrinsic attenuation.

MIDI Microbial Identification system is used to characterize and profile your bioprocess or bioremediation microbial populations through conception to full-scale implementation.   The MIDI system has over 50,000 species in the database and a capability to generate site specific library profiles of unknown microorganisms.  Microbial characterization and monitoring has several benefits:

  • Key microbial populations can be identified or profiled and be kept at optimal levels to ensure key biotransformation rates remain constant
  • Interfering or competing microbial populations can be detected and controlled more easily
  • The presence of microbial predators can be detected and controlled
  • Nutrient levels can be minimized while optimizing microbial performance
