Master of Science in Athletic Training

New Scholarships Available!

Slots are still available for the Fall 2008 class.  Applications will be accepted until the program is full.

Program Begins Fall 2008

Applications are now available under the "Graduate Admissions Process" link.

Students who currently possess a bachelor's degree in an area other than Athletic Training are eligible to apply for admission to the Master of Science in Athletic Training Program.

The program will provide students with knowledge and skills in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and general medical conditions. The Master of Science in Athletic Training education program (MSAT) is specifically designed to prepare students for a career in allied health care as a certified athletic trainer. Athletic trainers are currently employed in colleges and universities, public and private high schools, corporations, physical therapy clinics, professional organizations, the military, factories, and hospitals (www.nata.org - National Athletic Trainers' Association).

This program will seek accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).  Once the program is accredited, graduates will be eligible for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination and an athletic training license in Utah.

Seventy percent of all Certified Athletic Trainers hold at least a masters degree.  This is becoming the professional standard.  The MS in Athletic Training program at Weber State University is specifically designed for students who already possess a bachelor’s degree in a related allied health or exercise science area.  However, students with a bachelor's degree in a different field could enter the program after meeting the pre-requisite coursework.

Students must complete pre-requisite coursework prior to admission and all 51 graduate credits.

Clinical Rotations - Students will complete a variety of clinical rotations with   Division I-AA WSU athletics teams, high schools athletics, sports medicine/physical therapy clinics, and physician's offices.  There will also be many opportunities to work with other health care professionals at marathons, triathlons, the Special Olympics, and figure skating competitions, just to name a few.

Tuition Schedule - Same as WSU MBA Program.
