Students completing the English as a Second Language Program should be able to:

  1. Listen to classroom lectures, take notes and comprehend material presented in a university academic classroom to successfully past general education courses.
  2. Read and comprehend English college textbooks to successfully pass general education courses.
  3. Write at a level that is appropriate to pass general education courses.
  4. Ask and answer questions in classroom settings in academic context.
  5. Appropriately participate and express themselves in classroom discussion in academic context.
  6. Understand the dynamics of the American University classroom and interaction with American professors and instructors.
  7. Show an understanding of some of the aspects of American culture and society necessary for academic and social success.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of study habits, standards, and ethics needed for success at an American University.
