Upon graduation, students receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice should demonstrate a/an:

  1. General understanding for major theories of ethics
  2. General understanding for crime scene investigation and crime lab procedure
  3. General understanding for the major theories of crime causation
  4. Appreciation of constitutional values of due process, equal protection and fundamental fairness in policing, courts and corrections
  5. General understanding of case processing in the system from arrest through parole
  6. Effective written communication
  7. General understanding of the fundamental concepts of the criminal law
  8. Marketable credentials for employment or graduate/law school
  9. Awareness of crime victim assistance
  10. Appreciation for the role of critical theory in higher education
  11. Tolerance of cultural differences in a diverse society
  12. General understanding of the principles of social research methodology
  13. General understanding for the major issues of police work

Students receiving an Associate's Degree or Minor in Criminal Justice should:

  1. Understand the major theories of crime causation (biological, sociological, psychological);
  2. Grasp the fundamental concepts and nature of criminal law;
  3. Comprehend the fundamental goals and challenges facing police, courts and corrections in controlling crime and achieving justice.
