Human Performance Management Major (HPM)

Professional Competencies & Outcomes Primary Outcome Secondary Outcome
1. Core Knowledge & Skills The HPM major will be able to incorporate essential competencies and skills related to the respective content areas in developing, implementing, managing and evaluating wellness programs. HPM will have a cognitive background in biomedical, First Aid, Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Behavior.  
Biomedical; First Aid; Nutrition; Exercise & Nutrition; Special Population; Health Behavior & Motivation.
2. Communication- Resource Person; Use of Technology The HPM major must be able to serve as a resource person, consultant, and advocate in addressing wellness problems and related needs (issues, problems, etc.). The HPM will be able to utilize current technology in retrieving and presenting wellness- related information.
3. Management- Administration; Resource Management; Human Resources The HPM major should be able to coordinate services, manage people, and administer programs within a wellness environment for diverse populations. This implies 3.1: technical skills such as financial management, legal considerations; 3.2: conceptual skill such as creativity, innovation, analytical; 3.3: interpersonal skills such as managing conflict, cooperative work environment, influencing people, monitoring, and delegation; 3.4: administrative skills such as monitoring programs and conducting meetings.  Coordinating; Financial; Facilities; Legal.
4. Measurement, Assessment, Evaluation The HPM major must be able to evaluate individual, group, and program performance needs.  He/she must interpret results, make decisions regarding the findings and make appropriate recommendations and changes. HPM majors will be able to complete a need analysis, program evaluation, and both individual and group performance program assessment.

5. Program Planning & Program Design & Marketing The HPM major will be able to develop, design and market effective wellness programs.  HPM majors will have the skills to involve the necessary resource people and support and assistance.
6. Program Implementation & Teaching Methodology & Facilitator The HPM major will be able to implement wellness programs for diverse populations utilizing proper teaching and facilitator methodology.  HPM majors will be able to use macro approaches to reach large audiences for both marketing and educating including technology, the written media, and group organization.  NOTES: Health; Marketing Implementation HPM majors will be able to employ oral communication, small group dynamics, and individual counseling skills in implementation of programs.
7. Professional Development & Practical Experience The HPM major will serve professional organizations and obtain practical experiences within the community.  NOTES: defend professional role; articulate professional philosophy; develop portfolio.  NOTES: Professional Organizations; Internships; Senior Projects.
