SST - Technical SalesResults of Assessment 2006-2007 (submitted 04/22/08) The focus of assessment this year revolved around present teaching techniques and various forms of instruction and their effectiveness. An adjunct faculty member in the department completed a study for her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction entitled, "COLLEGE STUDENT COMPLIANCE WITH READING ASSIGNMENTS: HAS TECHNOLOGY AFFECTED LEARNING CULTURE?" Her findings revealed changes in the way students learn in the classroom and the faculty will be looking at adjusting teaching techniques, individual and group work, class assignments, reading assignments and their examinations to better meet the learning styles of students. A survey was completed in the SST 2383 course, "Retail Merchandising Methods" comparing assignments scores, test scores, etc. between the online and live course. It was found that scores are the same. With the innovative learning tools that are being used in online courses now, learning and understanding of class concepts continues to increase. The faculty continue to work on incorporating the newest learning tools into their online courses. A survey was administered by the Concurrent Enrollment Team at Weber State. This was given to students who are taking concurrent courses from the adjunct members of the SST faculty in the high schools in the Davis, Ogden and Weber Districts. Results seem to indicate that the students are very satisfied with the concepts they are learning in these courses and their teacher’s performance. This is helpful to know as students come to Weber State with these courses. Our departmental senior surveys indicate that graduates are especially pleased with the skill sets in personality profiling, presentations, customer service and sales negotiations. These areas continue to be highly rated by graduates. However, graduates also indicated their satisfaction with team development, SPIN selling, sales engineering and sales ethics. We continue to work with our advisory committee and our corporate partners. We seek their input in updates and changes to the curriculum that will meet their needs and better prepare technical sales graduates for employment. In response to feedback from graduates and our present students, we have increased the size of our support course offerings to allow students more choices in the courses they can take to fill this requirement. This will allow them to tailor their program to individual needs. Mission Statement / Student Learning Outcomes / Curriculum Grid / Assessment Plan / Contact Person |
