Results of Assessment

2005-2006 (submitted 12/17/07)

The outcome that was assessed for 2005-06 was outcome #1: Students should have a basic knowledge of the political institutions and processes of the government of the United States. This outcome was assessed using a 20 question test that was given to four different Polsc 1100 courses and two different upper division political science courses at the start of the spring semester. In the Polsc 1100 course 88 students took the "pre-test." The average score among these students was 11.1, or 55.5%. In the upper division courses, 25 political science majors took the "post-test." The average score here was 15.8, or 79%.

On the whole we were pleased with the results among our majors. We felt that this demonstrates that we are doing an adequate job with learning outcome #1.
