Completed Tasks:

what degree they were being met
- faculty were to identify on their course syllabus which course objective
was meeting which standard
- developed a list of direct and indirect measures being used and selected
additional measures to insure a complete representation of student abilities
with reference to the nine standards
- developed an assessment plan for collecting the data
- developed the additional assessment tools needed
- collection of data in the following areas:
- Senior Seminar Assessment Survey
- Portfolio (partial)
- Student's Self Teaching
Evaluations
Student Learning Outcomes Assessed in 1999-2000:
- Senior Seminar Assessment Survey - Standards 1-6
- Portfolio - Standards 1-9 (The portfolio was designed and
students enrolled in PE 2000 purchased the portfolio. The portfolio
will not be evaluated until the students currently enrolled in PE 2000 are
enrolled in PE 3520.)
- Student Teaching Self Evaluations - Standards 6, 7, 8, 9
- Professional Program Evaluation - Standards 1-9
The data collected will be used in conjunction with all direct
and indirect measures used in each class, as well as, faculty course evaluation.
Faculty Discussion of Outcomes Assessment:
- Copies of each step of the assessment process were given to
the Chair of the Department and to the Dean of the College of Education.
- Update reports were presented at each faculty meeting.
- The physical education faculty discussed each individual
step of the assessment process.
- Each individual faculty member selected the portfolio
artifacts for their respective classes.
- Results or information that needed to be addressed with
reference to course syllabus, assignments, or curriculum revisions were
brought to the physical education program director and a meeting was
scheduled.
Implications of Results on the Program:
- Program improvement
- Changes in course syllabus
- Target areas that need to be maintained or changed
- Changes in course content
- Revision of student assignments
- Changes in selected artifacts for the portfolio
- Greater emphasis on specific outcomes at various times, in
various major courses throughout the curriculum
- Changes in curriculum
- More emphasis placed on content in specific courses to
address particular standard(s)
- Reduce repetition of information from one course to another
- A plan for systematic evaluation
- Program accreditation
Student Learning Outcomes to be
Assessed in 2000-2001:
All standards are important and do
contribute to the development of physical educators, thus all standards will be
evaluated to some degree. However, not all standards will be developed or
evaluated to the same degree. The six standards that will receive priority
during the outcomes assessment process will be:
-
Standard 1 - Content Knowledge
-
Standard 4 - Management and
Motivation
-
Standard 5 - Communication
-
Standard 6 - Planning and
Instruction
-
Standard 8 - Reflection
-
Standard 9 - Collaboration
Some of the tools will be used on a
continuation basis and others will be used independently of other tools each
year.
The following are the tools
used for the data collection:
All the information gathered from
these sources will also be used in conjunction with all direct and indirect
measures used in each class, as well as faculty course evaluations.
