Results of Assessment

2003-2004 (submitted 10/05/04)

The Music Area outcomes assessment results for 2003-2004 showed the following:

1. The Music History program change has been successful and students who are entering from the old program are being integrated without a problem.

2. There is a need to add more course availability in music technology.

3. The Music Area needs to examine the Senior Project option for Music Education majors during the 2005 school year.

4. There is discussion about a pedagogy degree in some areas of instrumental music.

General Concerns

1. The music area's most pressing need remains a musicologist to effectively teach the major courses in the music history area.  With the restructuring of the Music History program it has become necessary to use a larger portion of the Instructional Wage budget to hire a faculty member to teach the classes.

2. Recruiting in the schools continues to be a problem.  Faculty loads preclude taking time out to travel to schools.

3. Discussion of staging an opera has been postponed due to the resignation of Jim Christian in the Theatre Area.

Accreditation

During the 2004-2005 school year the Music Area will seek Final Approval from NASM by submitting the required transcripts from students who have graduated since the new program was put into place.
