Performing Arts2000-2001 (submitted 9/04/01) The Music Area outcomes assessment results for 2000-2001 showed the following: 1. In the Music Core, test results are an accurate indicator of students’ ability in the courses. Students who successfully complete the first two years of school, therefore completing the core, are rarely unable to complete the remainder of their major courses. In an effort to make the major core even more effective a music theory placement exam will be given the first Wednesday of the fall semester. All students registered in the first semester theory classes will take the test. Those who do not score high enough will be required to enroll in the Fundamentals of Music course in the spring semester, thereby postponing their entrance into the Music Core until the following year. 2. It has been decided that auditions will now be required of all students desiring to become music majors. These auditions will take place either at scholarship auditions or on the first Friday of the school year. All music major programs will now require a performing audition. Any student who doesn’t meet the entrance requirements as a performer will be unable to register for the major private lesson number. 3. Students who complete their junior and senior recitals are passing these recitals. There were no recital failures this past year. 4. Students in the Music Education program feel that the department courses prepare them very well but that the College of Education programs do not meet their need for the correct preparation to be music teachers. This is an ongoing problem for the department which was being addressed by the last Director of Music Education. This will be a priority for the new Director of Music Education who comes on board this fall. Mission Statement / Student Learning Outcomes / Curriculum Grid / Assessment Plan / Contact Person |
