Results of Assessment

2000-2001 (submitted 10/15/01)

In 2000-2001, the Nursing Program collected the following data on our graduating majors:

  • Exit Interview and Graduate Satisfaction Surveys
  • Semester Reports
  • NCLEX Reports
  • Midterm and Final Clinical Evaluations
  • Coursework, exams, clinical experiences
  • Computer charting and computer testing
  • 6- and 12-month Alumni Surveys
  • Employer Satisfaction with Program Graduate Survey
  • Standardized Outcomes Assessment (Assessment Technology Incorporated - ATI), including
  • Critical Thinking (PN; AD; and BSN)
  • Therapeutic Nursing Intervention Capacity (PN; AD; and BSN)
  • Therapeutic Communication Capacity (PN; AD; and BSN)

The faculty discussed these data in the following ways:

  • Weekly faculty meetings which included discussions of student progress

  • General faculty meetings at the beginning and end of each academic year to discuss overall evaluations findings with all faculty.

  • The need for course changes is discussed both in Curriculum Committee and in Faculty meetings. These findings are also taken to Administrative Council for support and information.

  • Information is exchanged between Administration and Faculty through Administrative Council which includes Level Managers and faculty meetings. Outreach faculty is included through phone conferencing as well as by them traveling to the main campus.  This includes NCLEX test results.

  • Administration as well as faculty members meet with clinical agencies throughout the community to evaluate student clinical placement and nursing needs of the community.

As a result of these discussions, the following changes are anticipated:

  • Course changes and syllabi changes are affected through these discussions
  • Continued use of revised guidelines for student clinical placement
  • Continued use of ATI exams for students completing the PN; AD; and BSN nursing programs. The exam results serve two purposes: 1) Assess each student’s readiness to complete the applicable national licensure examination; 2) Assess effectiveness of program curriculum to prepare student nurses for successful national licensure.

During the 2001-2002 year, the Nursing program will assess all outcomes, using the same measures identified above.
