Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering TechnologyMechanical Engineering Technology (MET) Results of Assessment 2000-2001 (submitted 10/12/01) From the seven outcomes defined for the MET Program the following two outcomes will be assessed for the first time this academic year:
The assessment tool for outcome 2 will be a MET subject-specific examination to be administered at entrance (MET 1000) to establish a baseline, and at exit (MET 4990) to measure the students’ growth in problem solving ability. The faculty members in the MET program have written a set of problem solving outcomes for the core subject areas in the program. The core subject areas and the number of problem solving outcomes are as follows:
For each outcome enumerated above, a problem solving outcome has been written. From each outcome, a specific problem will be prepared later this school year and incorporated into the subject-specific examination. The exam will be administered for the first time to MET seniors in MET 4990 during the spring semester. This assessment exam will dovetail nicely into their preparation for the national FE exam in April. The target date for writing this exam is February 1. The assessment tool for outcome 6 will be an exit interview at graduation (May 2002) and an alumni survey of graduates who graduated from the MET program last year. The exit interview will be conducted by the MET Program Coordinator, and the alumni surveys will be designed by the MET Program Coordinator with the assistance of the department chair. The MMET Department tracks new graduates already, so the alumni survey portion of this assessment tool may only need to be modified to fit the specific assessment objectives of the MET Program. Target dates for completion of the alumni survey and exit interviews are March 1 and May 1, respectively.
