WHAT WAS ASSESSED: STUDENT OUTCOME #5 - Assess program
needs and demonstrate an evaluation attitude toward students experience in and
outside the classroom experience and non-experimental.

• Presentation critiques
DATA USED FOR ASSESSMENT:
• Compilation of four years worth of student projects presented in a
portfolio format.
ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES - INSTRUCTOR’S OBSERVATIONS:
• Need for more current methods of presenting work: Photo shop,
CD’s, Web page
• Need for professional presentation of projects: Improve renderings,
Unique board presentation, Develop consistent format for work, Better
quality materials for presentation, Better organizational skills
ASSESSMENT RESULTS BY PROFESSIONAL DESIGNERS:
• Review Spring 2004 / scale 1-10
Overall presentation of portfolio avg. 6
Technical Skills avg. 7
Design creativity avg. 6
Comments in general: good use of color, title each board, good CADD
skills, clarify design phase used in binders, great models, add more
projects
ASSESSMENT RESULTS BY STUDENTS:
• Format of the class needs to be modified: Learn more current
methods of presenting projects, Better ways of updating student work, A
suitable textbook for the course
CHANGES TO IMPLEMENT:
• Researching new textbook for Spring 2005 - Instruction in Photo Shop,
Instruction in creating a portfolio CD, Review of student work at the
Sophomore and Junior level, Stress rendering skills, Stress creativity in
board presentations, Stress design process relating to project notebooks,
Assist students in organizing their work in a cohesive format
• Note: The level of work, especially in the Junior year, needs to
improve in order to have more prepared students for the professional work
force.
