Results of Assessment

1999-2000 (submitted 10/00)

The Geography Department has initiated its assessment procedure by implementing the following:

  1. An outcomes assessment exam has been produced and administered to a class of incoming students in one of the department's introductory classes. The same exam will be administered to students in the department's senior seminar next semester and a comparison will be made between the two exam results. It is expected that scores will be much higher among our graduating seniors. If there are exam subjects where this does not occur, additional attention will be given to those areas in courses during the future.
  2. An exit interview has been devised and will be administered starting immediately to all graduating seniors. The questionnaire gives graduating students an opportunity to evaluate their education at WSU in a number of areas of instruction offered by the department. Attention will be given to any areas of deficiency identified from the student surveys.
