Results of Assessment

1999-2000 (submitted 04/06/01)

The following data were collected:

  • National Dental Hygiene Board examination scores
  • Clinical Dental Hygiene Board examination scores (Western Regional Examining Board)
  • Outcomes assessment survey of dental hygiene students who are currently in the program (junior class/1st year)
  • Exit survey of dental hygiene students who are ready to graduate (senior class/2nd year)
  • Assessment Survey of the year 2000 graduates
  • Assessment Survey of the year 2000 graduate employers
  • Multi-year Graduate Assessment Survey that included Classes of 1980, 1985, 1990, and 1995
  • Midterm & Final Clinical Evaluations, including mock board examinations
  • Course work, examinations, clinical experiences

Discussion of Data

  • The data collected were discussed during the beginning of the year full-faculty meeting, the program advisory meeting and at faculty meetings throughout the year.

Changes anticipated as a result of the discussions:

  • Course changes and syllabi modifications are affected through these discussions
  • Plans are underway to increase the information presented to the students in dental office business management and dental insurances in response to employers and community input
  • Comprehensive Mock- Dental Hygiene National Board examinations will be re-instated as a method to evaluate student learning and will be used as an indicator of the student’s readiness to take the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination.
  • Quantitative data will be tracked to document trends in degree completion (baccalaureate degrees) and graduate degrees (masters & PhD)
  • The employer survey will be modified to evaluate the employment needs as additional dental hygiene programs add to the employee pool in the State of Utah.

Learning outcomes to be assessed in 2001:

  • Written examinations scores in each didactic course
  • Clinical evaluations, clinical mock board examinations, and process evaluation outcomes for specific skills and procedures
  • Comprehensive Mock- Dental Hygiene National Board examination
  • National Dental Hygiene Board examination scores
  • Clinical Dental Hygiene Board examination scores (Western Regional Examining Board)
  • Outcomes assessment survey of dental hygiene students who are currently in the program (junior class/1st year)
  • Exit survey of dental hygiene students who are ready to graduate (senior class/2nd year)
  • Assessment Survey of the year 2001 graduates
  • Assessment Survey of the year 2001 graduate employers
  • Multi-year Graduate Assessment Survey that included Classes of 1981, 1986, 1991, and 1996
