Results of Assessment

2004-2005 (submitted 06/26/07)

Assessment, Sept. 29, 2005

To follow up on last year’s assessment work, department members requested information regarding whether student course evaluations of instructors correlated in any way with the grades students received in the corresponding courses. A study was conducted with examined one semester=s (Spring, 2005) average course GPA to determine if such was correlated with the average of one question (#8: "Overall, I rate this instructor as: 5 = excellent, 1 = poor") on each department instructor's course evaluations (Arts & Humanities format) which were collected by the department for Spring, 2005.

A correlation was detected and is significant at the 0.01 level (2-tailed).

Department faculty examined this information and determined to continue to look at this focus of assessment in the future by replicating the study in a future semester and also looking at other factors which may have contributed to the results.

The Arts and Humanities sub-committee has continued to work on the assessment of the WSU gen ed program.  A pilot program of assessment has been proposed for the 2005-2006 year.
