CommunicationResults of Assessment 2002-2003 (submitted 10/14/03) Assessment projects completed this semester: "Direct-to-the-Web" Recruitment web page developed and implemented. (copy attached) Since implementation, department has received more than 25 phone calls and email messages directly related to the web page. From these contacts, some preliminary data regarding entering students and their needs is being documented by the department. This kind of data may be useful in the future in assessing whether our programs have met student needs and interests. 500 alumni and internship surveys have been printed and names for mailing are currently being culled from a large database. We hope to have surveys out and some analysis completed on returned surveys by August 15 in time to discuss at our back-to-school departmental meetings. Three faculty members are currently reading and evaluating Comm 4990 Final Project Papers and scoring them using the writing rubrics developed by our department. Reports should be available for faculty use by August 1. Faculty "Brown Bag" Seminar was hosted on grade inflation and general issues of classroom assessment. Dr. Frank Guliuzza, Chair of Political Science/Philosophy Department, and Dr. Cliff Nowell, Chair of the Economics Department, were guest speakers. The Communication Department has held a number of whole faculty and sub-committee meetings in regard to possible changes in department curriculum. Much of the discussion in these meetings has been related to assessment and future assessment efforts. Becky Johns, Assessment Coordinator for the department, attended and reported on two national assessment conferences. Becky Johns, Assessment Coordinator, worked with the Dean of Arts and Humanities to write the Humanities and Creative Arts Breadth Area document for our accreditation study. Assessment is a major part of this document. |
