Results of Assessment

2006-2007 (submitted 04/28/08)

The WSU Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) uses several assessment tools to evaluate the quality of individual courses and instructors, the quality of the clinical experiences and clinical affiliations, the satisfaction of the students in the program, the satisfaction of the freshmen observation students, the performance of each student following each clinical rotation, and the satisfaction with the education provided by our graduates and employers of graduates. This document summarizes the findings of  the ATEP for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Summary Facts

  • No athletic training student (ATS) has ever been withheld from progressing in any of the athletic training clinical education courses as a result of not achieving 70% or better on all oral/practical and written examinations in a clinical education course.

  • No ATS has ever been withheld from progressing in any of the athletic training clinical education courses due to not satisfactorily completing every unit in their Athletic Training Clinical Competency and Proficiency course package.

  • The mean ACI Clinical Evaluation Survey (assessment of clinical instructor satisfaction) score was 4.63 out of 5 ± .48 (n=274) indicting that ATS overall perceived their ACI to be above satisfactory at proving a quality clinical experience between the Fall of 2005 through 2007. From the Fall of 2005- Spring of 2007 to Fall 2005-2007 (spring and fall) the mean ACI Clinical Evaluation Survey scores increased from 4.57 to 4.63, a 2% increase, while the standard deviation decreased from .525 to .48 (9% improvement).

  • In general ATS are satisfied with their clinical education affiliation facilities and the organization of said facilities.

  • Final Clinical Education Rotation Evaluations (ACI's evaluation of the ATS) demonstrated satisfactory competency of all ATS at all clinical levels.

  • Athletic training students’ evaluation of the ATEP (matriculated students) indicated ATS were very satisfied with their educational experiences in the academic and clinical education setting. The mean Athletic Training Student Persistence Survey score for spring 2007 was 72.96/85 ± 6.32 (n=32).

  • The mean Athletic Training Student Persistence Survey (assessment of the students’ seeking entrance to the ATEP satisfaction with various aspects of the program) indicted that students overall perceived their education to be above satisfactory, scoring 72.51/90 ± 11.05 (n=37).

  • Alumni surveys of the ATEP after graduating from the Weber State University suggest that overall the Alumni were satisfied with the curriculum provided by the ATEP.

  • Employer surveys suggest that ATS graduating from WSU are “Honest, Dependable, Punctual, Positive Attitude.” Employers reported that they would be willing to continue to hire WSU ATEP graduates.

  • 3-out-of 4 (75%) ATS sitting for the Board of Certification national examination passed the exam on the first attempt.
