Results of Assessment
1998-1999 (submitted 9/22/99)
Data Types:
- For direct measures, the mean and range scores were collected for Professional Practice
Experience Module assignments and course testing. These data types were identified as the
direct measure to a specific outcome of the program.
- For indirect measures, an exit survey was administered to the graduating students of the
program. The mode score was collected from this exit survey. Also, the results of the 1998
National Certification Examination administered by the American Health Information
Management Association were reviewed. The mean for WSU students was compared to the
national mean for each sub-domain category. The program plans to administer an employer
survey during the fall semester, 1999.
Interpretation of Results:
- In general the faculty believe that this is baseline data to trend over the next several
years. The data indicate that students are learning/demonstrating the specific skills and
outcomes that have been identified.
- The faculty recognize that many of the Professional Practice Experience modules no
longer correspond to specific required outcomes by the accrediting organization, AHIMA.
However the community of interest requires students to have these skills.
- The exit survey showed on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), that students believe
they are leaving the program with the required skills and outcomes. The mode scores on
exit survey were in the 4-5 range.
- In reference to the National Certification Examination, graduates scored at or above the
national mean in all but one sub-domain area. In this one area during the 1998-99 school
year, Professional Practice Experience modules were implemented to help the students
become more proficient in the Data Content and Structures sub-domain.
