    • Approximately 500 students are in the CLS database online with 200 active taking CLS courses.
  • Increased number of the graduates for the past four years to over 70 per year
  • Increased clinical sites with the help of NUAHEC, SWAHEC and IHC
  • All the students applying to graduate, medical, PA and DO schools have been accepted.
  • Four of the graduates have positions at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  This occurred after Mayo Clinic conducted their annual recruitment activities at WSU.
  • Results of national board exam as part of department outcomes assessment processes.
    • CLS/MT          BS degree        32 students       93% pass rate
    • CLT/MLT        AAS degree     34 students       97% pass rate
  • Utah Medical Education Council is conducting research on Utah CLS outcomes. The following is WSU, CLS information which was a part of the statistics collected for sharing with the other higher education institutions in Utah which offer CLS programs.

Faculty:

  • Supported faculty to complete graduate degrees (one MS)
  • Received many Marriott Development grants
  • Supported and encouraged research and publication activities
  • Supported faculty development (publications and presentations at conferences)
  • Supported faculty and adjunct faculty in attendance at WSU-sponsored professional development, including WebCT vista.
  • Added adjunct faculty to help decrease work-load for on campus faculty
  • All faculty serve in various positions throughout college and campus communities.
  • These positions and committees include in addition to CLS Advisory Committee:
    • Bill Zundel – serves on WSU Senate, DCHP Grievance Committee and served on Scholarship Committee

  • Mountainstar Health Care
  • IASIS Health Care
  • Ogden Clinic
  • Many physicians in the community

7. Departmental major needs for the coming year.

  • Since CLS Department prides itself for being unique in the nation in offering clinical experience on campus in house, there is a great need for newer laboratory instrumentations and equipment to run the labs.  Although, we had several centrifuges replaced and have a new camera for microscopic teaching, at the present time we are still in desperate need of hematology, coagulation and chemistry analyzers.  We are also in need of one more office space in order to conduct business more efficiently.
