Results of Assessment

1999-2000 (submitted April 2, 2001)

  1. National accreditation procedures and Site Visit by NAACLS:
    • The CLS Department experienced their self-study procedures for the national accreditation review last year.  The Site-Visit was completed during Spring Semester of 2000 and the outcomes were the best ever in the CLS Department’s twenty-seven year history.  There were no deficiencies and the CLS Department’s programs were commended for setting examples for similar programs in the nation.  The department received continues accreditation for the next seven years.
  2. The following data were collected on the CLS/CLT student Majors:
    • Written examinations scores in each course

    • National Board Examination Overall Results for year 2000

      • CLT/MLT 15 students with 93% pass rate

      • CLS/MT 16 students with 75% pass rate

    • Clinical evaluations during the Summer Semester 2000

    • Laboratory Competency Evaluations for Online

    • Students

    • Laboratory evaluations, practical exams, and procedure outcomes

    • Exit Survey

    • Modified Employer Survey

    • Graduate Survey

  1. Discussion  of Data:

    • The data collected were discussed during CLS faculty weekly meetings.  The results were also discussed in the CLS Advisory Council annual meeting.

  2. Changes anticipated as a result of the discussions:

    • In the past consistent national board exam-passing rate of 95%-100% for the past few years has encouraged the program faculty and staff to continue with and improve upon the present curriculum, laboratory, and clinical activities.  However, the CLS/MT scores from the National Board Exams for the year 2000 were somewhat lower than our traditional scores.  While this is not a regular occurrence, the department is still concerned about the outcome for this year and will examine the reasons for the occurrence and will take proper action (i.e. extra preparatory sessions, study group sessions, mock exams, and extra questions on routine course exams).

    • The employment placement rate of 100% has been very favorable for our graduates and beneficial to our health care community.

    • The employer survey was modified to evaluate the needs of rapidly changing health care environment.  Since Clinical Laboratory Sciences profession is experiencing a great shortage at the present time and it has been estimated that this shortage will continue with a higher rate into the next five years, assessing the employers becomes more critical.  Consequently, employer survey will be modified yet again and will be carried out annually to review the graduate outcomes and market needs.

    • The program conducts an annual Exit Survey/Graduate of the graduates. In addition to this survey, a six-month post graduate survey will be constructed to better assess the graduate outcomes yearly.

  3. Students outcomes to be assessed in 2001:

    • Written examinations scores in each course

    • National Board Examination Results (Quarterly)

    • Clinical evaluations during the Summer Semester 2001

    • Laboratory evaluations, practical exams, and procedure outcomes for each course

    • Exit Survey

    • Six-month Post Graduate Survey

    • Employer Survey (New Version)
