Student Learning Outcomes

  1. At the completion of HS 1101, Medical Terminology class, the student will be able to recognize, spell and pronounce medical words and abbreviations.
  2. At the completion of HS 1110, 1111, Biomedical Core classes, the student will be able to integrate the basic concepts of physics, chemistry, human anatomy, human physiology and medical microbiology as related to humans.
  3. At the completion of HS 1130, Common Medicines, the student will be able to evaluate over-the-counter and prescriptions for possible drug-related problems and become an informed consumer.
  4. At the completion of HS 2230, Introductory Pathophysiology, the student will be able to correlate normal anatomy and physiology and the processes which result in disease.
  5. At the completion of HS 3328, Pathophysiology of Cells and Tissues, the student will be able to correlate the biological interactions among cellular injuries, genetic disorders, neoplasia, and inflammatory and immune disorders.
  6. At the completion of HS 3329, Pathophysiology of Organs and Systems, the student will be able to interpret disease pathogenesis and pathological systems.
  7. At the completion of HS 4010, Interdisciplinary Health Care Teams, the student will learn the role of the health care team members and be able to practice using an interdisciplinary approach in a health care setting.
  8. At the completion of the new health science health professions mathematics course, the student will be able to apply basic mathematical concepts to health professions mathematical calculations.
  9. After completing the required prerequisite courses in health sciences for various health professions, the student will be able to access various campus learning resources, utilize the computer in learning, testing and research tasks, and demonstrate awareness of learning and professional skills and values required for health services.
  10. After accessing services provided by the Dumke College of Health Professions Admissions/Advisement Office, students will demonstrate an awareness of program pre-requisites, application processes and deadlines required to be a successful applicant (note: “applicant” not necessarily an “admitted” applicant) for the various health professions programs offered in the DCHP. 
  11. After accessing services provided by the Dumke College of Health Professions Career Counseling Office, students (particularly unaccepted nursing applicants) will demonstrate an awareness of various alternative Allied Health professions’ programs available to them. Additionally, they will be able to determine if their chosen program would be a good career “fit” based on knowledge gained regarding their interests and personality traits as well as information about the day-to-day activities involved in those alternative health professions. 
  12. After accessing services provided by the Dumke College of Health Professions Career Counseling Office, students will be better prepared to apply for graduate positions due to the availability of employment-related seminars and workshops, and individual employment advising.
