Incorporation of assessment results for program improvement. |
| (1) Graduates will be able to demonstrate competency in oral and/or
written communication skills including ability to plan, organize, research and
present reports using emerging technologies. |
Careful scrutiny of grading requirements will be made in classes in which
this goal is included as a course requirement.
Opportunities will be provided for student presentations
Student will be encouraged to use presentation software and other
multimedia tools in their oral presentations. |
Student
presentations will be a factor in determining grades where appropriate,
and feedback will be provided in order to foster improvements in student
communication skills.
Students will be required to become competent in conducting and
reporting on research on a variety of subjects. During this process,
they will make use of a variety of traditional sources for collecting
information (such as the library) and non-traditional sources such as
the INTERNET and electronic data bases such as ABI INFORM and FIRST
SEARCH.
Extracurricular involvement in organizations such as Students In Free
Enterprise will promote student participation in a variety of
activities that can earn regional and national recognition. |
| (2) Graduates will have an ongoing, professional, and interactive
relationship with the business community in the University’s service area. |
Aggregating the number of invited guest speakers who visit the university
to make presentations to our students.
Requiring students to attend various seminars in which panel members
and/or presenters from area businesses are making speeches/presentations.
Placing selected business department students in internships with
appropriate organizations. |
Several
guest speakers have made presentations to students in the Goddard School
of Business and Economics. This gives students an opportunity to benefit
from "real world" information given by guest speakers.
Business department students are involved in several aspects of
organizing and conducting seminars.
Students have obtained internships with various organizations. |
| (3) Graduates will exhibit knowledge of theoretical concepts, ideas, and
topics taught in the areas of Management, Marketing, Finance, and Logistics. |
Graduating seniors who are enrolled in BUSADM 4780 (Strategic Management
and Policy) will be given the NATIONAL STANDARDIZED OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT
EXAM. This exam is taken across the United States in approximately 500
business institutions of higher learning and will allow for
cross-institutional comparison and trend analysis. |
Relative
strengths and weaknesses in our programs will be highlighted with trends
established over time that will promote our ability to focus on
improvement efforts. |
| (4) Graduates will become proficient in interpersonal/human relation skills
while acquiring the ability to effectively work in a team environment. |
Above goal is included in appropriate course syllabi (as part of the
course content) with group written and oral projects being required for
grade. |
Course
content will be updated in several courses to reflect this goal. For
example, in one course required for management majors, students will be
taught eight different interpersonal and group skills.
Courses in the business department will require students to complete
projects in groups/teams. The nature of team assignments will very in
nature based on course requirements ranging from case analysis and
presentations to poster sessions. Peer evaluation will be introduced to
inspire students to display a sense of responsibility in being
accountable to team members and to rate others in an objective manner. |
| (5) Graduates will be offered opportunities for placement in positions
befitting their education and with competitive salaries. |
Each year a survey of the graduating class gathers information on the rate
of placement, starting salaries, and employers. A subsequent survey is
conducted 12 months later. |
Survey
will allow for the assessment of the demand associated with various
programs and may provide direction for targeted improvement. |
