1. Begins in the foundation course and ends in the internship and capstone course (Health 4990)

Responsibility II - planning effective health education programs.

1. Direct skills and competencies presentations (Health 3000, Health 3200, HAS 3190); program plan assignments (Health 4150, HAS 3190); professional portfolio (Health 4990) 

2. Indirect - ability to participate in program planning during INTERNSHIP (Health 4860)

1. Begins in the foundations course and ends in the internship and capstone course (Health 4990)

Responsibility III - implementing health education programs.

1. Direct - skills and competencies presentations (Health 3000, HAS 3190); development of unit plans; develop lesson plan and deliver presentation which is videotaped; develop public service announcements, newsletters, brochures (Health 3200, Health 3100, HAS 3190, HAS 4410)

2. Indirect - ability to implement a program during INTERNSHIP; students use this skill most often during INTERNSHIP (Health 4860)

1. Begins in the foundations course and ends in the internship and capstone course (Health 4990)

Responsibility IV - evaluating effectiveness of health education programs.

1. Direct - skills and competencies presentations (Health 3000, Health 3200, HAS 3190); students complete 6 hours in statistics/evaluation (HIM 3200); students develop evaluation plan/instruments (Health 4150) as part of program plan; develop and complete research project in Health 4013.

2. Indirect - ability to evaluate a program plan during INTERNSHIP (Health 4860)

1. Begins in the foundations course and ends in the internship and capstone course (Health 4990)

Responsibility V - coordinating provisions of health education services.

1. Direct – Students understand the health system (HAS 3000); skills and competencies presentation (Health 3000); coalition team needs assessment and program plan (HAS 3230, Health 4150)

2. Indirect - majority of students coordinate program during INTERNSHIP (Health 4860)

1. Begins in the foundations course and ends in the internship and capstone course (Health 4990)

Responsibility VI - acting as a resource person in health education

1. Direct - skills and competencies presentation (Health 3000); students routinely complete assignments related to reviews of literature and finding community health related resources using the library and Internet; major Internet assignment (HAS 3000, Health 3000, Health 3100, Health 4013, HAS 3150)

2. Indirect - ability to locate and utilize resources during INTERNSHIP (Health 4860)

Responsibility VII - communicating health and health education needs, concerns and resources.

1. Direct - skills and competencies presentation (Health 3000); Health related classes teaching a variety of topics (Health 3200); analysis of students skills and competencies as judged by internship supervisors, using standardized instrument; diversity assignment (Health 3000); Health Communications course exams and assignments (HAS 3230).

2. Indirect - ability to communicate health and health education needs, concerns and resources during INTERNSHIP (Health 4860)

1. Begins in the foundations course and ends in the internship and capstone course (Health 4990)

Eclectic and generic measures across all responsibilities

1. Direct - capstone 180 hour internship; senior seminar capstone course; many employment-related assignments; practice CHES exam

2. Indirect - analysis of student skills and competencies as judged by internship supervisors using standardized instruments; interviews and sharing of experiences; survey of curriculum with respect to CHES competencies
